A fine of Rs 5000 has been imposed on the boutique of a woman found guilty of wrongly stitching clothes before a wedding ceremony in Vadodara, Gujarat. According to a consumer forum, the boutique caused ‘mental trauma’ to a woman by stitching her clothes wrongly. Due to this, she had to wear other clothes during the wedding ceremony. According to the woman, she approached the boutique in 2017 and filed a case in the consumer forum in 2018 after being dissatisfied with the services.

The boutique did not respond to the notice

According to the woman, the boutique owner refused to buy new blouse pieces for her and re-stitch them without any extra cost. After hearing the arguments, the Consumer Forum said in its order, despite receiving the notice, the opposite party – Boutique neither appeared during the hearing nor filed an affidavit challenging the claims of the complainant.

Three blouses and two dresses – not stitched properly

The Vadodara District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (Additional), in its order passed on March 7, said the complainant woman had planned to wear these clothes during her nephew’s wedding. The woman’s garments – three blouses and two dresses – were not stitched properly, the forum said in its order. The boutique has been found guilty of mental harassment. Therefore the complainant will have to pay Rs 5,000.

Order came in seven year old case

On the complaint of the woman who complained, the consumer forum said that the boutique will pay the woman Rs 3,000 for stitching charges and Rs 2,000 for legal costs. Deepika Dave from Ahmedabad had gone to the boutique in October 2017 for three matching blouse pieces. The woman alleges that her clothes were found stitched with three sarees purchased from another shop. According to the woman, apart from another blouse piece of her daughter, she also gave two dresses for stitching. Paid Rs 5,000 for tailoring, but did not get the right clothes.
